KakaoTalk is the name given to the Windows program that allows using the homonymous voice-over-IP service. Its interface looks quite similar to those of other messengers, and just like them, it has been designed to be easy to use by anyone, regardless of their level of computer expertise. A few tips from a friend should be enough for slow learners to start using this software.

It would be impossible to evaluate this tool without considering what the KakaoTalk service has to offer. Luckily, there are KakaoTalk clients for other types of devices and operating system (there is even a web version) so it is possible to communicate with other users of the service regardless of the device they are using. Unfortunately, though, it does not allow communicating with people who do not have a KakaoTalk account. This is definitely a major drawback since other messengers do allow communicating across different networks.

Besides voice chatting, the service allows sending text messages as well as sharing multimedia and document files. The quality of the service is very good, allowing voice conversations with no interruptions. Not only that, it provides fast access to the camera and transfers video without distortions.

Conveniently, KakaoTalk has some features that are typical of social networks. For example, you can create group chat sessions with an unlimited number of participants. Besides, you can not only communicate with your current contacts but find new people to chat with. It is possible to search for other users based on their names, numbers and email address; while this is absolutely opportune in terms of meeting people online, it can also turn into a violation of their privacy. It is also a problem that the tool does not use end-to-end encryption to protect data from being pried by others.

All in all, KakaoTalk is deservedly a very popular communication service. Regrettably, the main complaints about it are related to privacy breach and its incompatibility with other services and messengers.

I absolutely hate the default "Lock Mode" setting on KTPC. Why do I need to log in? I just logged into my PC. That is plenty of security. At a minimum, this should be an optional setting. Facebook doesn't require logging in every time I use it. Neither does Skype. This is just poorly thought out software engineering.
